Note that the ice fishing for me ended Sunday March 7th. The ice is not safe enough for my chicken self. I will change the layout of my home page to reflect some other fun stuff that occurs here in SW Wyoming and keeps me occupied.
A web page is now up and devoted to the one that got a way. Oops, a poorly scripted catch and release, sorry my bad!

The little rod that could~or attempted to. Note the larger "broomstick" rods in the rod holders on the sled. Also above is the eating size lake trout.

Aqua Terror!

An appearance of the lochness monster?

3 hours 45 minutes of a battle with too small a rod and finally the line loop at the jig eye failed.
A really sad moment as I reflect. The small rod held up well but in the end, did not have the backbone to turn the big fishes head away from the bottom. The whole event was a combination of fear, terror, and thrilling insanity with a fish who won, and deservingly so...I guess, maybe. I am still bruised. Be sure to read the full story, The Big Fish Story.
February 6th. Here's a few smaller 2-4 pound lakers. I got two more not pictured, I had a great day catching fish.

This one is still trying to swim away.
I just love my sled/fishing set up.
 A very artistic pressure ridge.

Computer fried finally after five years.

Ever wished you could do this to your computer, wait long enough and you can!
I just love my sled. January 29th. 2010. Notice no snow. I fished the first time this winter with out a fish finder. Blind man fishing the dead sea. The new fish finder will be here on Monday and not any too soon! It can be seen above.
On a day filled with sunshine, and no wind, it is truly magnificent to be out fishing.
The power auger is a good thing, there are 24 inches of ice here. No I didn't drive my pickup on it.
Notice there are no pictures of huge fish being held or stacked in a pile. I nearly got skunked.
Burbot Bash this past weekend was very well attended. Even with high winds, brutal wind chills, and snow on the west end for travelers, we still had over 500 fishermen register for the chamber of commerce drawing. Bigfishtackle.com and IceShanty.com members showed up in good numbers as did the ling. One report for Friday night's catch was over 300. We are already discussing new ideas for next year's event.
The flag and tip ups are on my sled. Many enjoyed my presentation on fishing, and on the use of tip ups. I was surprised of the number who had not used tip ups yet.
The Wyoming Game and Fish gave a great presentation on the ling in the gorge.
This is just a minor part of the participants. Many came in, and disappeared to go find a rocky point with ling. Hopefully with less wind.
This flag standing guard on a giant pontoon boat was about finished.
Iceshanty.com fishing tourney practice fish/chinese fire drill..

He was the largest of three rainbows. Also caught were five lakers, five more I released, ten ling I iced and probably 20 or more I missed bites on. I have learned to use the fish finder correctly now. I have learned to target small lake trout and feel optimistic that larger ones will follow. I am able to pile ling on the ice. Sorry, no further pictures, camera ran out of batteries.
Fish prediction: no fish are caught at home in front of the TV.
Today is Friday, December 18th. and I did well.
Ok, I did better than well, how about GREAT. I have been so busy catching fish and chasing flags I haven't had time to tie up my boots even.
Four rainbow and two lake trout. I missed about 20 and released four little one's to live to fight another day.

Ling recipe: skin ling, boil fillets 4 minutes. Dip in lemon juice and butter, just like lobster, well, sorta. They are very very good eating. They smell like decaying seaweed, and are slimey as a big pike. MMM.....ling Gooood. l Burbot Bash,
Be sure to keep up on the ice fishing at Iceshanty.com

| To maintain good mental health this winter, get out and get some fresh air, take your fishin' pole along too.
Fresh fish is great for your diet, and fishing is a very pleasurable sport. Catching is even better! Remember to stay warm, catch fish, and never let the fish win.
Ice fishing tip of the week: when the moon phase has the fish not active or when the barometer is poor as in this past weekend, go scout new spots to fish. If you catch any fish, remember to visit that spot again when the conditions are better for producing a mess of fish. It pays off to get out and explore even when fishing is slow temporarily. I now have a new hot spot when the reliable producing spots get crowded with fishermen. Yes, I do check to see who follows me down fishing.
